Many taxpayers were facing problems while linking Aadhaar with PAN due to mismatch in Name in Aadhaar with Name as per PAN Card. Income Tax Department has simplified the process for such cases. Now a person can link the Aadhaar with PAN Card even if there is minor mismatch of Name in PAN with Name in Aadhaar.
One Time Password (Aadhaar OTP) will be sent to the mobile registered with Aadhaar.
Taxpayers should ensure that the date of birth and gender in PAN and Aadhaar are exactly same.
There is no need to login or be registered on E-filing website to link Aadhaar with PAN. Just visit https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/e-Filing/Services/LinkAadhaarHome.html and link Aadhaar with PAN.
This facility is also available after login on the e-filing website where Link Aadhaar option is available under Profile settings menu. The details as per PAN will be pre-populated. Enter Aadhaar no. and enter Name exactly as given in Aadhaar card (avoid spelling mistakes) and submit.
In a rare case where Aadhaar name is completely different from name in PAN, then the linking will fail and taxpayer will be prompted to change the name in either Aadhaar or in PAN database.
This process is recently updated(on 10th May 2017), so taxpayers who could not link the Aadhaar with PAN due to mismatch in Name can link the Aadhaar now.
