Are taxpayers required to submit any document or evidence with Income-tax return? The answer is No!
The Income tax department has made the return filing process quite hassle free. It requires the taxpayer to file an annexure less return. It is advisable to maintain a file of documents year-wise arranged.This practice will be very beneficial in future. Photocopies of rent receipts and rent agreement submitted to the employer for claiming HRA receipts, Medical bills or expenses incurred for medical treatment, Life insurance premium receipts and mediclaim documents. Also, if any donations are made then the receipt should be preserved. All these documents need not be attached with Income- tax return. These documents may come handy if your return is raised for scrutiny by the Assessing officer.
The Income-tax department has also made the e-verification of your returns easy and paperless by introducing the EVC (Electronic Verification Code) system. Click here to know more about EVC. Only if EVC mode for e-verification of ITR-V is not done, one needs to submit it physically to CPC, Bangalore.
