    Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing this question on behalf of my wife.

I got to know about the outstanding tax demand only once I was logged in this month to her account.

I was shocked to find that there was such demand pending in her name but I don't remember we ever receiving any intimation under Section 143(1) asking for outstanding demand along with the calculations, stating the reason why you need to pay more tax.

We were never comfortable using the e-filing website because it was too difficult for us to understand.

Her employer used to deduct TDS for period A.Y. 2008-09 that the demand is placed for and that the request itself seems to be raised on 11/11/2009.

Please advise how I can contend this situation as the amount that needs to be paid is more than I can actually afford.

Your help will be highly appreciated.
