With constant efforts of the Government of e-enabling the various services for the benefit of the taxpayers, here comes one more supportive and a thoughtful step by our Government for minimizing the efforts of the taxpayers.
E-sahyog is a Project to provide an online mechanism to resolve mismatches in income Tax return without requiring taxpayers to attend the Income Tax Office.
The process of income tax return processing is carried out by the income tax department in the following way:
First, the income tax department receives the return filed, after that it processes the same and reconciles it with the details shown by third parties in their TDS returns or income tax returns filed by them, and in case any mismatch is found, the Income Tax department selects the cases for scrutiny and taxpayers meet the income tax authorities and submit the requirements asked by them. It was a very cumbersome and time consuming process with excessive need for documentation and storage. Also, it was not cost effective for the department as well as for the taxpayers. In order to reduce cost, time and efforts, department has launched e-sahyog to provide online correction mechanism.The taxpayer has to just login on e-filing portal to view the mismatch information and submit an online response. The response of the taxpayers will be processed and if the department finds it satisfactory, the issue will be closed, and if not, any additional documents or information asked for is to be submitted.
This step taken by the department will surely reduce the burden of the taxpayers to a great extent, apart from saving cost and time. It is a move taken by the income tax department in accordance with the Digital India Initiative , that aims at the growth of online infrastructure of the government bodies and government services. Also, it will lower the fear of people of receiving notices from Income Tax department!
