What is Form No. 168?
Form No. 168 is the statutory Annual Information Statement prescribed for Tax Year 2026–27 onwards under the Income-tax Act, 2025.
It is an annual, PAN-linked statement containing tax information and specified financial transactions available with the Income Tax Department. It provides taxpayers with a consolidated view of information reported by employers, banks, deductors, collectors, mutual funds, stockbrokers, property registrars and other reporting entities.
Form No. 168 replaces the earlier Form 26AS framework for periods governed by the Income-tax Act, 2025. However, taxpayers filing returns for FY 2025–26 and AY 2026–27 will continue to refer to Form 26AS and the existing Annual Information Statement under the Income-tax Act, 1961.
Important transition: Form No. 168 applies to information relating to Tax Year 2026–27, covering the period from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027. It should not be used for filing the return relating to FY 2025–26 / AY 2026–27.

Does a taxpayer need to file Form No. 168?
No. Form No. 168 is not filed manually by the taxpayer.
It is automatically generated by the Income Tax Department using information received from deductors, collectors, employers, banks, financial institutions and other reporting entities.
There is therefore no separate filing due date for taxpayers. Their responsibility is to review the statement, identify mismatches and use the correct information while preparing the income-tax return.

1. Tax deducted or collected at source
This section contains information relating to Tax Deducted at Source and Tax Collected at Source reported against the taxpayer’s PAN.
Taxpayers should compare these entries with relevant certificates, including Form No. 130 for salary TDS and other applicable TDS certificates under the Income-tax Rules, 2026.
2. Specified financial transactions
This section contains information furnished by reporting entities through statements of specified financial transactions.
Depending on the taxpayer’s activities, the information may include transactions relating to:

Form No. 168 may include information relating to pending proceedings available in the Department’s systems.
6. Completed proceedings
It may also contain information relating to proceedings that have been completed during the relevant period.

- Business income
- Taxes paid
| Document | Purpose |

How to access Form No. 168
Form No. 168 can be accessed through the Income Tax e-filing portal.
- Log in to the Income Tax e-filing portal using the taxpayer’s credentials.
- Open the e-File menu.
- Select Income Tax Returns.
- Click View Annual Information Statement (AIS).
Depending on the portal interface, the statement may also be available through the AIS tab or the AIS tile under the Compliance Portal.
How should Form No. 168 be used for Tax Year 2026–27?
Before filing the return for Tax Year 2026–27, taxpayers should reconcile Form No. 168 with their own records.
Important documents to compare include:
- Form No. 130 issued by the employer
- Other TDS or TCS certificates
- Bank statements and interest certificates
- Broker and mutual-fund capital-gain reports
- Property purchase or sale documents
- Foreign-remittance records
- Advance-tax and self-assessment-tax challans
- Refund, demand and proceeding records on the e-filing portal
A transaction appearing in Form No. 168 does not automatically determine its final tax treatment. The taxpayer must examine the nature of the transaction and apply the relevant provisions of the Income-tax Act, 2025.
What should you do if information in Form No. 168 is incorrect?
If an entry is incorrect, duplicated or does not belong to the taxpayer, feedback should be submitted through the AIS section of the e-filing portal.
- Open the Annual Information Statement.
- Select the relevant transaction.
- Click Give Feedback.
- Select the appropriate reason, such as incorrect, duplicate or not related to the taxpayer.
- Submit the response.
TIS cannot be edited directly. It is updated automatically after the Department processes the feedback submitted against the detailed AIS transaction.
Where TDS is missing or incorrectly reported, the taxpayer may also need to contact the deductor and request correction of the underlying TDS statement.
What if income is missing from Form No. 168?
All taxable and reportable income must be disclosed in the income-tax return even where it is not reflected in Form No. 168.
Information may be absent because a reporting entity has not yet filed its statement, a transaction is below a reporting threshold or the information has not yet been processed by the Department.
Remember: Form No. 168 is a verification statement, not a substitute for the taxpayer’s books, bank statements, investment reports or other supporting documents. The income-tax return must contain the taxpayer’s complete and correct information.
