Taxpayers who have paid the government more tax than they are legally obligated to pay file an Income Tax Return in order to get an Income Tax Refund. The main reasons for submitting an income tax return in order to get a refund are listed below.
- When a taxpayer has paid advance tax on the basis of self-assessment and the amount paid turns out to be significantly higher than the taxpayer's real tax burden.
- If a taxpayer's TDS has been deducted far more than it should have been based on the liability, the taxpayer may be eligible for an income tax refund.
- Double taxation of the taxpayer's income or the taxpayer's inability to file.
