Unable to complete your ITR filing?
You can add new information or update previously entered details directly from your myITreturn dashboard. After submitting the information, you may also authenticate it with the Income Tax Department using an OTP.
Follow the steps below to complete the process.
Before you begin
Keep your PAN details and access to your registered mobile number ready. Enter the information exactly as it appears in the records of the Income Tax Department.
Steps to Add or Update Your Details
Step 1: Select Add or Edit
On the dashboard, locate the relevant section and select one of the following options:
- Click Add to enter new details.
- Click Edit to modify information that has already been entered.
Step 2: Enter or Update the Information
Enter the required information or make the necessary corrections to the existing details.
Review every entry carefully and click Submit to save the information.
Check before submitting: A spelling difference, incorrect date, incomplete name or other mismatch may prevent successful authentication.
Step 3: Request an OTP for Authentication
After submitting the details, you will be given the option to authenticate them with the Income Tax Department.
Click Request OTP to begin the verification process. Enter the OTP received on the applicable registered mobile number when prompted.
Keep your OTP confidential
Do not disclose your OTP, Income Tax portal password or other login credentials to anyone. Enter the OTP only on the secure authentication screen.
Step 4: Resolve a Details Mismatch
An error may appear if the information entered in myITreturn does not match the records maintained by the Income Tax Department.
If this happens, you can:
- Review and correct the information, and then request a fresh OTP.
- Confirm that the name, date of birth and other details match your official records.
- Click Skip to continue and complete the authentication later.
Authentication completed
Once the OTP is successfully validated, check that the details have been saved correctly before continuing with your Income-tax Return.
What Should You Do If Authentication Fails?
- Check whether all mandatory fields have been completed.
- Remove unnecessary spaces or typing errors.
- Match the details with your PAN and Income Tax Department records.
- Use the latest OTP if more than one OTP has been requested.
- Retry after correcting the information.
- Use the Skip option and return to the authentication step later, if required.
Important Points to Remember
- Use the Add option only when entering new information.
- Use the Edit option when correcting an existing entry.
- Review the details before clicking Submit.
- Authentication does not correct inaccurate information automatically.
- Skipping authentication allows you to continue, but you may need to complete it later.
