Unable to complete your ITR filing?
After downloading and installing the myITreturn mobile app, open the app to access the homepage. Follow the steps below to enter your income, deductions, tax payments, bank details and personal information and complete your Income-tax Return filing.
Documents Required Before Filing ITR on the myITreturn App
Keep the following documents and information ready before starting your return:
- PAN and Aadhaar details
- Form 16 issued by your employer
- Form 26AS and Annual Information Statement
- Bank account and IFSC details
- Interest certificates from banks or post offices
- Investment and deduction proofs
- Self-assessment tax challan, if applicable
Before you begin: The screens and filing options displayed in the app may differ depending on your income sources, taxpayer profile and the options selected by you.
Step-by-Step Process to File ITR on the myITreturn Mobile App
Step 1: Add or Select a Tax Filer
Tap ADD TAX FILER to add a new taxpayer. If the taxpayer is already listed on the homepage, tap the taxpayer’s name to continue the filing process.
Step 2: Select Your Income and Deduction Details
Enable all the options that apply to your income, investments, deductions and tax payments. After selecting the relevant options, tap Continue.
Select all applicable income sources: Include salary, interest, house property, capital gains, business income and other income wherever applicable. Missing an income source may result in incomplete reporting.
Step 3: Enter Salary Income and TDS Details
Enter your complete salary details as reported in Form 16. Also enter or verify the tax deducted at source by your employer.
Check that the salary and TDS details match Form 16, Form 26AS and AIS, and then tap Save.
Step 4: Report Savings Account and Fixed Deposit Interest
Enter interest earned from savings accounts, fixed deposits, recurring deposits, post-office deposits and any other applicable source.
Verify the interest income with AIS, bank statements or interest certificates and tap Save.
Step 5: Enter LIC Premium for Section 80C Deduction
Enter the eligible life insurance premium paid during the financial year. Confirm that the policy and premium satisfy the conditions for deduction under section 80C.
Tap Save after entering the eligible amount.
Step 6: Claim Children’s Tuition Fees Under Section 80C
Enter eligible tuition fees paid for the full-time education of your children during the financial year.
Do not include development fees, donations, transport charges, hostel expenses, late fees or other non-tuition charges. Tap Save after entering the eligible amount.
Section 80C reminder: LIC premiums and eligible tuition fees form part of the overall section 80C deduction limit. Section 80C deductions are generally not available under the new tax regime.
Step 7: Enter Self-Assessment Tax Challan Details
If you have paid self-assessment tax, enter the payment details shown on the challan. These may include:
- Tax amount paid
- BSR code
- Challan serial number
- Date of payment
Verify the information with the tax-payment receipt and tap Save.
Step 8: Verify Mobile Number, Email and Contact Details
Enter or verify your mobile number, email address and communication address. These details may be used for return-related communication and verification.
Tap Save after confirming that the information is correct.
Step 9: Add Bank Account Details for Income-tax Refund
Enter the following bank account information:
- Bank account number
- Account type
- IFSC
- Bank name and other required information
Select the account in which you want to receive an Income-tax refund, if applicable, and tap Save.
Step 10: Reconfirm Your Bank Account and IFSC
Review the bank details displayed on the screen. Confirm that the account number, account type and IFSC are correct, and then tap Continue.
Important: Incorrect, closed or inactive bank account details may delay the credit of your Income-tax refund. Use a valid bank account linked with your PAN wherever applicable.
Step 11: Select Original, Belated or Revised Return Type
Select the appropriate return type displayed in the app. The available options may include:
- Original return
- Belated return
- Revised return
- Updated return, where applicable
Review the selected return type and tap Continue.
Step 12: Review the Tax Computation and File Your ITR
Review the final tax computation, income details, deductions, tax payments and bank account information before submitting the return.
If tax remains payable, complete the payment and enter the challan details. After confirming all information, tap Pay and File to proceed with filing.
Complete E-Verification After Filing Your Income-tax Return
Filing is not complete until verification
After the return is successfully submitted, complete e-verification using an available verification method. An unverified return may be treated as invalid if it is not verified within the permitted time.
Final Checklist Before Submitting Your ITR
- Confirm that all income sources have been reported.
- Match salary and TDS details with Form 16 and Form 26AS.
- Review interest, dividend and other income appearing in AIS.
- Check whether deductions are available under your selected tax regime.
- Verify the bank account number and IFSC.
- Pay any outstanding tax before submission.
- Confirm that the correct return type has been selected.
- Complete e-verification after filing.
