Unable to complete your ITR filing?
Filing an Income Tax Return involving business, professional or freelancing income requires you to provide information across different sections such as income, financial particulars, deductions, taxes paid and other relevant details.
myITreturn provides a guided question-and-answer filing flow that takes you through these sections one by one.
This guide explains the ITR-3 filing flow on myITreturn for Assessment Year 2026-27.
Step 1: Create your myITreturn account
If you are a new user, start by creating an account on myITreturn.
You can:
- Continue with Google, or
- Sign up using your email address and password.
If you are signing up using email, enter your email address, password, confirm the password, enter the captcha code and click Sign up.
Step 2: Select the filing option from your dashboard
After accessing your account and selecting the relevant member and Financial Year 2025-26, you will see the available filing options.
To follow the guided filing process shown in this article, select Answer Easy Q & A and File yourself.
Click Continue to proceed.
Step 3: Complete PAN verification
This step authorizes myITreturn to act as your e-Return Intermediary (ERI), as mandated by the Income Tax Department for processing your ITR.
Click Request OTP to start the verification process. The OTP will be sent as per the verification process displayed on the screen.
Complete the verification to continue with your return.
Step 4: Select your applicable income sources
myITreturn will ask you a series of questions to identify the heads under which you earned income during the year.
Select Yes or No against the applicable items, such as:
- Salary or pension
- House property
- Interest or dividend income
- Capital gains
- Crypto income
- Business, profession or freelancing income
- Directorship
- Unlisted shares
- Other income
For an ITR-3 flow involving business or professional income, select Yes against Income from Business, Profession or Freelancing, etc., along with any other income sources applicable to you.
Click Choose Return Type to proceed.
Step 5: Choose your return type
Select the tax regime under which you want to file your return.
- Original Return
- Revised Return
Select the option applicable to you and proceed to Tax Regime.
Step 6: Choose your tax regime
Select the tax regime under which you want to file your return.
- Old Regime
- New Regime
Select the option applicable to you and proceed to Residential Status.
Step 7: Select your residential status
Select your residential status for Financial Year 2025-26.
The options displayed include:
- Indian Resident
- Non Resident Indian (NRI)
- Not Ordinary Resident (NOR)
If you are unsure about your residential status, you can use the Help me decide option.
Answer the additional questions displayed on the screen and proceed to General Business.
Enter Business, Profession or Freelancing Income
Step 8: Add business or professional details
Under Details of Income from Business, Profession or Freelancing, click + ADD DETAILS.
This opens the section where you can enter details of your business, profession or freelancing activity.
Steps to File through Uploading Form 16
Step 9: Enter the details of business, profession or freelancing
Complete the applicable fields shown on the screen.
The flow may require details such as:
- Type of business
- Nature of business
- Name of business
- Turnover or gross receipts received in bank
- Estimated profit percentage
- Amount of profit
- Turnover or gross receipts received in cash
- Turnover or receipts received through other modes
- TDS deducted
- TAN of deductor
- Name of deductor
- Nature of payment
After entering the applicable information, click SAVE.
The screen also displays the calculated business profit based on the details entered.
Step 10: Review the business income entered
Once the business or professional details are saved, the activity will appear in the income summary.
Review the following:
- Name of business
- Amount taxable
- Total business income
Use the edit option if any correction is required.
Once the information is correct, click General Balance Sheet.
Complete Financial Particulars
Step 11: Enter financial particulars of your business or profession
Complete the Financial Particulars of Business/Profession section.
The Assets section may ask for:
- Fixed assets
- Inventories
- Sundry debtors/receivables
- Balance with banks
- Cash-in-hand
- Loans and advances
- Other assets
The Liabilities section may include:
- Secured loans
- Unsecured loans
- Advances
- Sundry creditors/payables
- Other liabilities
The screen also displays Total Assets, Total Liabilities and Member's Capital based on the details entered.
After completing the required information, proceed to Deductions Start.
Deductions and Tax Relief
Step 11: Answer the deductions and tax-relief questions
myITreturn will ask whether additional deduction or tax-relief sections apply to you.
The screen shown includes:
- Deductions
- Tax relief on salary arrears received
- Tax relief on taxes paid outside India
Select Yes or No against each question according to your circumstances.
If you select Yes, complete the additional details requested in the relevant section.
Proceed to Deductions.
Taxes Paid
Step 12: Specify the taxes already paid
Under Taxes Paid, indicate whether you have:
- TDS, and/or
- Advance Tax or Self-Assessment Tax
Select Yes wherever applicable and proceed to the respective tax details.
Step 13: Review or add TDS details
If TDS applies, review the Tax Deducted at Source (Other than Salary) details.
The screen displays information such as:
- Name of deductor
- Section or nature of payment
- TAN
- TDS deducted
Click + ADD if you need to enter another TDS record.
Existing entries can also be edited or removed, wherever required.
Step 14: Add Advance Tax or Self-Assessment Tax details
If you have paid Advance Tax or Self-Assessment Tax, enter the applicable challan details.
The screen asks for:
- Name of Bank
- Name of Branch
- Mode of Payment
- BSR Code
- Challan Serial Number
- Date of Payment
- Amount
Verify these details with your tax payment challan and click SAVE.
Other Details
Step 15: Answer additional filing questions
Under Other Details, myITreturn asks certain additional questions relevant to your return.
These include whether you have any foreign bank accounts, shares or property.
You will also be asked whether:
- Income of any family member needs to be included in your return, and
- You are governed by the Portuguese Civil Code.
Select Yes or No as applicable and continue.
Step 16: Add foreign bank details, if applicable
If foreign bank accounts are applicable to you, the Foreign Bank Accounts section will be displayed.
Click + ADD FOREIGN BANK and enter the required details.
Continue to the next applicable foreign asset section after completing the information.
Step 17: Answer the high-value transaction questions
myITreturn will ask whether any of the high-value transaction conditions displayed on the screen apply to you.
The questions shown include transactions relating to:
- Specified deposits in bank accounts
- Foreign travel expenditure
- Electricity expenditure
- Other prescribed return-filing conditions
Select Yes or No based on your actual transactions during the financial year.
Proceed to Contact Details.
Personal and Bank Details
Step 18: Complete your personal and contact details
Review and complete your personal information carefully.
The screen requests details such as:
- Taxpayer description
- Flat/Door/Block Number
- Premises/Building
- Street/Road
- Area/Locality
- Town/City/District
- PIN Code
- State
- Country
- Mobile Number
- Aadhaar/Enrolment Number
Verify the information and click SAVE.
Then proceed to Bank Details.
Step 19: Add your bank account details
Enter the bank account details required for your Income Tax Return.
The screen requires:
- IFSC Code
- Bank Name
- Account Type
- Account Number
Enter the applicable information and click SAVE.
Bank account details are also important where an Income Tax refund is to be credited.
What to review before proceeding to Summary and e-File
After completing the above sections, review all the information entered in your return before proceeding to the Summary and e-File sections.
Make sure that:
- All applicable income sources have been selected.
- Business or professional income details are complete.
- Turnover, gross receipts and taxable income have been reviewed.
- Financial particulars have been entered correctly.
- Applicable deductions and tax-relief questions have been answered.
- TDS details have been reviewed.
- Advance Tax or Self-Assessment Tax challan details have been entered, wherever applicable.
- Foreign asset-related questions have been answered correctly.
- High-value transaction questions have been completed.
- Personal and contact information is correct.
- Correct bank account details have been entered.
