Unable to complete your ITR filing?
myITreturn allows you to import available prefilled information from the Income Tax Department and use it to prepare your Income-tax Return.
The imported information may include personal details, income information, TDS, tax payments and other data available against your PAN. Follow the steps below to import the data, review your return and proceed with filing.
Important: Prefilled data helps reduce manual entry, but it may not contain every income, deduction or transaction. Always review the imported details and add any missing information before filing your return.
Before Importing Prefilled ITR Data
Keep the following details available:
- PAN of the taxpayer
- Mobile number registered with the Income Tax Department
- Access to the mobile number required for OTP verification
- Form 16, Form 26AS and Annual Information Statement
- Bank account and income details
- Investment and deduction documents, where applicable
OTP safety: Enter the OTP only on the secure myITreturn screen. Do not share an OTP, password or banking PIN with another person.
Steps to Import Prefilled Data and File ITR on myITreturn
Step 1: Select Import and Continue
Log in to your myITreturn account and open the applicable taxpayer profile from the dashboard.
On the filing screen, select Import and Continue to begin importing the available prefilled data.
Step 2: Confirm That You Want to Import the Data
A confirmation message will appear on the screen. Select Yes to allow myITreturn to proceed with the prefilled data import process.
Step 3: Complete the First OTP Verification, If Required
If the taxpayer has not already been added to the myITreturn account, the system may ask for an initial OTP verification.
Enter the OTP received on the applicable registered mobile number and complete the verification.
Step 4: Complete the OTP Verification for Prefilled Data
Enter the OTP received for importing the taxpayer’s prefilled Income Tax Department data.
If the taxpayer is already added to the account, the process may take you directly to this OTP screen.
Why two OTPs may appear: One OTP may be required to add or verify the taxpayer profile, while another may be required to authorise the import of prefilled tax information.
Step 5: Import the Available Income Tax Data
After successful OTP verification, select Import and Continue.
myITreturn will import the available information associated with the taxpayer’s PAN.
Step 6: Review the Imported ITR Details
After the import is completed, the available information will be populated in the return.
Review each section carefully, including:
- Personal and contact details
- Salary income
- Interest and other income
- TDS and TCS details
- Advance tax and self-assessment tax
- Bank account information
- Deductions and exemptions
Add or correct any information that is missing, incomplete or inaccurate.
Do not file without reviewing: The taxpayer remains responsible for reporting complete and correct information. Income or deductions missing from the imported data must be added manually before filing.
Step 7: Proceed with ITR Filing
After reviewing and confirming the imported data, proceed to the tax computation and filing section.
Check the selected tax regime, applicable ITR form, taxable income, deductions, tax liability and refund details before continuing.
Step 8: Complete Self-Filing Free of Cost
The self-filing option on myITreturn is free. Review the final return and complete the filing process by following the instructions displayed on the screen.
Complete E-Verification After Filing
After the return is submitted, complete the applicable verification process. An Income-tax Return is not considered complete merely because it has been uploaded.
Final filing step: E-verify the return using an available verification method within the permitted time. Keep the ITR acknowledgement for your records.
